Asmita Chepang lives in Gamedung village, and has never experienced access to medical facilities or received the right medical assistance before. Proper healthcare is out of reach for people like her, who lack the money to travel far to seek help or pay for medication. These villagers do not even know how to treat a fever, and pregnant ladies do not know about the importance of regular visits to the health centre. Many children have died as a result of the severe lack of medicine and a doctor’s care and treatment.
Whether it is in the hilly tribal groups in Nepal, or the slum areas of India that are hard to reach, some people are not as fortunate as us to have easy access to healthcare services – many of them have to walk for two hours to see the nearest healthcare worker available.
Thus we have sent teams to such areas to provide quality medical and dentist services, to give these villagers a chance to access proper medical services.
- We have mobilized overseas doctors, local health workers, nurses and helpers to conduct a few days of medical camps to these targeted areas. Each medical camp serves more than 500 people.
- We educate families on basic hygiene and health protection in the areas we visit.
- We conduct day camps for children to educate them on basic personal and dental hygiene. We want to provide them with basic health awareness so that in the long term they will know how to remain healthy.
